A friend of mine from work asked me why his PDFed document looked so bad. I asked him what version of Acrobat he was using and he answered that he was using some freeware program. That was his problem. He e-mailed me his document and I PDFed it through my Adobe Actobat 9 product and the product was marvelous.
I can’t say enoough great things about this product. It integrates with (on my computer):
- MS Word 2007
- MS Excel 2007
- MS Visio
- MS Project
- Explorer 8
Runs on Windows 7 and Integrates natively with my Adobe Illustrator CS4 and Photoshop CS4.
There are a lot of customizable functions in the product that allows you to create different quality PDFs and an ability to merge different PDFs into one PDF document. You can create forms too and send documents out for revisions from your users.
Is the product perfect? No. I must say that I’ve had problems with the Update feature from Adobe. Once, I had to reinstall my entire operating system to get it to work: that was a real bummer and I seriously urge Adobe to fix those problems with their updater programs.
However the product itself is great. In my opinion, accept no substitutes. Use Adobe Acrobat. It’s the standard.
SHOULD YOU UPGRADE FROM ACROBAT 7?
- If you’re going to Windows 7 — YES, Acrobat 7 won’t work with Windows 7
- If you’re running any CS4 product — YES, the updater issues alone are enough to upgrade
SHOULD YOU UPGRADE FROM ACROBAT 8?
- If you’re running Windows 7 — Depends, Acrobat 8 will work with Windows 7 (I had it running)
- If you’re running any CS4 product — YES, the updater issues alone are enough to upgrade
- If you’re only using Acrobat 8 — Depends, it really depends on if you’re using some of the Adobe 9 specific features (mentioned in the sales documentation above).

I upgraded from Adobe Acrobat 8 at the suggestion of Adobe customer service. There is a known issue with Vista Business that causes the version 8 product to lose registration information thus rendering the PDF printer capability inoperable. I print ALL my work directly to PDF and only create paper copies on rare occasions so I rely heavily on Acrobat to manage my printed documents.
The new features and changes in the processing capabilities make this a worthwhile upgrade in any case although I am disappointed that the printing process (PDF Printer) is no faster or more efficient than previous versions.

Save your money. The horror stories with this product are NOT exagerated!
This is a beta release at best. This is the crime of theft at worst. I have the boxed version acrobat 9 pro. I have three days of every permutation while trying to install and stabilize this “beta” software.
If you do not heed the warning as I did not. Plan to spend days if not weeks in particular opt for Adobe “support”. In short I can not be negative enough about this product and the Adobe company.

Would not recognize my prior 7 license – (it was OEM). Had to call Adobe – wait 15 minutes. Also OCR is not nearly as good and Nuance’s product OMNIPAGE. Crashes computer XP pro after a large number of OCRs. Very hard to remember commands.

I’ve been using Acrobat 7 for years and was quite happy with it. However, it will not work with Windows 7 and Adobe seems to ignore this MS release altogether. I downloaded the demo and it tested fine with Windows 7 Professional, so I bought the upgrade install. It installed smoothly and does what we need.
